Release 3 / Connection Wizard

Connection Wizard assists you in creating data links involving Tibbo Device Servers and Virtual Serial Ports.

With expanded selection of jobs and improved support for WAN installations the new, smarter Wizard will surely remain your favorite configuration tool... or even the only tool you will ever use.

New features in Release3

Expanded job selection. The list of jobs offered by the Wizard now includes Application<-->Device Server connection job and an option to finish configuration job started on a different PC.

Improved support for WAN installations. Connection Wizard now correctly identifies remote Device Servers, sets gateway and netmask parameters, and creates reverse connections when necessary.

Expanded job selection

New Application<-->Device Server connection job sets up the Device Server to work directly with a PC application. It is assumed that the application is "networking-capable" and can communicate with the Device Server directly. This job is similar to the Virtual Serial Port <--> Device Server connection job except that no VSP is created or configured, only appropriate Device Server setup is performed.

Finish remote job selection provides a way to setup the Device Server that is not accessible from the PC on which the Wizard was originally run. Many networks are asymmetrical and it may well be that only the Device Server side of the link you intend to create can "see" the PC on which the Wizard is running. In this case immediate configuration of the Device Server is not possible, since it is not visible from the PC. To solve this problem the Wizard will generate a configuration file. Later, you can run the Wizard on a PC that can access the Device Server is question, select Finish remote job and let the Wizard configure the Device Server using the data from the configuration file.

Improved support for WAN installations

The Wizard now correctly identifies remote Device Servers located on different network segments and correctly fills out/requests default gateway and netmask parameters if necessary. The Wizard also supports creation of asymmetrical links and employs reverse connections when necessary.
