Question: When I connect the DS203 to a power source, it gets very very hot. Is it going to burn? Is it normal? Why is that?
Answer: This is normal! DON'T PANIC. :) The only reason for this is that the DS203 is a 100BaseT device. 100BaseT Ethernet devices always get very hot – and this is to be expected.
A DS100 shouldn't get so hot, but for a DS203 is is normal and natural. So if your device keeps working fine – let it be.
This is also a design factor to take into account when embedding the EM202 in a circuit – it will get hot.
The operating temperature can be up to 70 degrees Celsius, as noted in the specification.
Note: This applies to any 100BaseT device, not just the DS203. It's true also for EM200, EM202, and future devices.
