Question: I can't see my device in DS Manager or Device Explorer. I can't even ping it. Why is that?
Answer: We have had reports from some of our Customers that they couldn't operate our devices on certain networks – the devices would not even respond to a ping.
The problem turned out to be in the Ethernet (MAC) address of the device – some networks won't work with the Ethernet equipment whose Ethernet address starts with an odd number (i.e. “1.2.3.4.5.6”). Such networks require that the first digit of the Ethernet address is always even (i.e. “0.2.3.4.5.6”).
When devices leave our factory, their MAC addresses always start with an even number. However, since the address is configurable, this might still happen ih the field.
If you happen to experience this problem, simply change the first number of your device's Ethernet address to “0”.
