Question: I got a Tibbo power supply which is rated for 12V. When I connected it and measure the voltage using a voltmeter, I get 17V! Is my PSU faulty? Will it burn the DS202 if I connect it?
Answer: What you see is the PSU voltage when not under load. Once you connect the DS202 to the PSU, the voltage will decrease significantly and will reach around 12V. The PSU is not regulated because the DS202 contains an internal voltage regulator – the DS202 can work in a wide voltage range, from ~9V to ~25V.
Thus, the DS202 can work with a non-regulated PSU. The important thing to make sure is that the current rating is high enough – at least 500mA.
