Getting a Gray Icon in DS Manager

Question: I manually set an IP address of the DS100. When launching DS Manager, it displays the above DS100 (Access mode is set on “Auto-discovery by broadcast”) with the same IP address but the blue icons are grayed and status indicates that “current IP-address is invalid”. What's wrong?

Answer: Grayed status icon and “IP-address is invalid” message appears when the PC cannot communicate with the DS100 using a “normal” IP addressing. The DS Manager discovers the DS100s on the network by sending a broadcast UDP message to port 65535. This message reaches all DS100s on the network, regardless of their IP-address. The DS Manager collects all replies sent by the devices. This is how the “preliminary” list is created. Then, the DS Manager sends the same “discovery” message to UDP port 65535 but this time it addresses each device in the list individually – by its IP-address. If there is no reply then this means that the DS100 is there but for some reason cannot be addressed using its IP. Typically this happens when the IP-address of the DS100 is not compatible with the IP-address and netmask setting of your PC. For example, if your PC's IP address is 192.168.100.40 and the Netmask is 255.255.255.0 and the IP-address of the DS100 is 192.168.1.90 then you will see the grayed icon. Set the IP-address of the DS100 to 192.168.100.90 and the problem is solved.

So, the question is not what IP-address you have set for your DS100. It is rather if it is in the same range with the IP-address of your PC.
