DS Manager cannot communicate with Device Server in Address Book mode after changing MAC address.

Question: I have a Device Server which I configured the IP address using Address Book mode, and everything was fine. Then I change the MAC of the DS. And when I am trying to access the settings of the DS, I got “there was no response from this device server.” Why?

Answer: This is actually caused by the Windows ARP table. In Address Book mode, DS Manager communicates with DS with either TCP or UDP protocol. Unlike the UDP Broadcast in Auto Discovery Mode, correct MAC and IP pair of DS is needed for DS Manager to connect to DS. When you change the MAC, the ARP table of Windows takes certain time to refresh, and before it refreshes, the MAC/IP pair in the ARP table stays the same. So when you click on the setting button, the DS Manager will try to connect to IP with the pervious MAC address of the DS. If you don’t want to wait for the ARP table to refresh, what you need to open a command prompt or click “start” → “run” and type “arp -d” this will clear the ARP table, and force Windows to refresh it.
