Introduction
The EM202-EV is a 100BaseT Ethernet to serial board based on the EM202 Ethernet module.
The board offers a convenient way to test the EM202 and is also small enough to be used in production devices as a faster
implementation alternative to modules.
The EM202-EV is a dual-use device: depending on the loaded firmware it can work as a fixed-function, ready-to-run
serial-to-Ethernet converter (default) or BASIC-programmable module.
As a serial-to-Ethernet converter, the EM202-EV allows you to quickly network-enable practically any serial device or system.
As a BASIC-programmable controller, the EM202-EV offers a low-cost, rapid development alternative to expensive and complex computing platforms,
such as LINUX-based boards.
The EM202-EV is supplied in three versions (-RS, -TM, -TS) that differ in the set of installed components-
see bottom of page for details.
The EM202-EV can be used to create a standalone product or it can be built into your host device as a network communications board.
Hardware Features
- Compact, PCB dimensions only 52.6x38mm.
- Two power options: onboard power regulator with 9-24VDC input range (-RS, -TM) or direct 5VDC input (-TS).
- One 100BaseT Ethernet port.
- Choice of RS232 (-RS) or TTL-level (-TM, -TS) serial port (TX, RX, RTS, CTS, DTR, DSR).
- Two status LEDs on top of the Board* (-RS).
- Optional onboard reset source with brown-out detection (-RS, -TM).
- Internal firmware is upgradeable through the serial port or network.
- EM202-EV Starter Kit available.
- CE- and FCC-approved.
Serial-to-Ethernet Converter Features
- Serial port lines can be used as remotely controlled I/O.
- Full- or half-duplex operation for TTL-level serial port (-TM, -TS).
- 8KB routing buffers (x2, one in each direction).
- Onboard EEPROM stores numerous user-definable functioning parameters (Settings).
- Setup through the serial port or network (UDP commands or "Telnet" TCP session).
- Over-the-network IP address configuration is also supported.
- Specialized "on-the-fly" commands for serial port control.
- "Modem" commands to control network connections; status commands for remote monitoring, etc.
- Direct control of ADSL modems.
- Supported network protocols include UDP, TCP, ARP, ICMP (PING), DHCP, PPPoE, and LCP.
- Supplied with the Device Server Toolkit (DST) for Windows.
The DST includes Virtual Serial Port Driver (VSPD) , a.k.a. "COM redirector".
LINUX version of the VSPD is also available.
- Works with the AggreGate system.
BASIC-programmable Controller Features
- Executes your application written in Tibbo BASIC.
- Absolute flexibility - think of your device as a miniature computing platform.
- Supplied with TIDE -- a comprehensive development environment featuring seamless cross-debugging.
- Integrated web server (HTTP) with dynamic content generation.
- Numerous high-level objects speed up and simplify coding. Available objects include:
- Sock- up to 16 simultaneous TCP or UDP connections;
- Ser- UART communications;
- Io- control serial port lines;
- Stor- read to and write from the EEPROM;
- Romfile- add static (ROM) data to your project;
- And more...

* There are also two Ethernet and two Status LEDs next to RJ45 connector on the EM202. Two optional LEDs on top of the board are connected
in parallel with the Status LEDs on the EM202.

EM202-EV-RS ("RS" stands for "RS-232") is intended for standalone designs, as it includes RS232 interface, switching power supply, reset IC, and "top" status LEDs.
This Board can be used, for example, to build an external Serial Device Server, akin to Tibbo's
DS100.
EM202-EV-TM ("TM" stands for "TTL Master") is intended to be installed inside your serial device (piggyback on top of your device's main PCB).
The board has a TTL serial interface, and also can provide regulated 5VDC power (up to 100mA) and reset to your board.
EM202-EV-TS ("TS" stands for "TTL Slave") is also intended to be used inside your serial device, but it doesn't
have a power regulator and reset IC so your serial board must provide 5VDC power and a valid reset signal.
